Anhui Province stands foremost in terms of scientific and technological strength with the provincial capital city of Hefei as one of the important national bases for science and education, which is also the first designated pilot city for national scientific and technological innovations in the whole country. By the end of 2007, Anhui has 1.24 million professionals of various kinds, 959 scientific research institutions, with 366 institutes by large and medium-sized industrial enterprises, 96 thousand people engaged in science and technology, including 63 thousand scientists and engineers. Besides, there is one national lab, two key labs of state level, 28 key labs of provincial level, 15 labs jointly established by Anhui Province and concerned ministries. An all-round development has also taken place in education. In the year of 2007,there were 18 postgraduate training organizations in the whole province, 28,098 current postgraduates were in the study. There were 97 higher colleges and universities in Anhui, 731,000 students were in the study. Secondary vocational schools of various kinds had 849,000 students in the study. With the support of the above-mentioned institutions for science & research and professional training, the foreign-invested businesses in Anhui Province have an easy access to the local recruitment of needed personnel.
